Warming and flavorful for the cold season, this split pea purée is incredibly easy to make and packed with nutrients, including plant-based protein. It’s naturally delicious without any oil, but you can add a drizzle of olive oil before serving if desired.
Best of all, there’s no pre-soaking required.

Rinse the split peas under running water until the water runs clear (about 3 rinses).

Add the rinsed peas to a medium saucepan with 3 cups of water.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 20 minutes.

Add the garlic, salt, and ground cumin. Stir well.

Continue simmering for another 15–20 minutes, or until the peas are very tender and most of the water has been absorbed.

Turn off the heat and purée with an immersion blender until smooth. Alternatively, blend in a regular blender.

Serve warm on its own or with a drizzle of olive oil, if desired.
